How To Transfer Your Prepaid Card Balance To Amazon

Transfer from FamZoo card to Amazon balance

Looking for a way to quickly unload that $3.54 remaining on your prepaid card?

Most merchants won’t let you split a purchase between your prepaid card and another payment method at checkout. ATM withdrawals and cash back options are typically in round numbers starting at $20. So liquidating your lingering prepaid card balance can be a bit challenging.

If you are an Amazon.com customer, there’s a simple, quick solution.

Reload your Amazon gift card balance with the amount remaining on your prepaid card.

Then, the next time you make an Amazon purchase, you can split the amount between your Amazon gift card balance and your regular payment method.

Here are the step-by-step instructions:

  1. Sign into Amazon, click on Your Account, click on Gift Cards, and click on the Reload Your Balance button (or click here to go straight to the reload page).
  2. Enter the balance remaining on your prepaid card in the custom amount field to the right of the fixed amount buttons.
  3. Add your prepaid card as the payment source for the reload, and click the Reload button.

The next time you make a purchase on Amazon, you’ll be given the option of using your gift card balance to cover some or all of the amount due at checkout.

Perfect instructions. Thank you.

What if the prepaid card doesn't have a cardholder name? Do I just add my name on that line (step three, provide name on card)?

Apologies, but I don't have experience doing this with a prepaid card that isn't reloadable and doesn't have a cardholder name printed on it, so I can't provide a definitive answer to your question.

Amazon changed how this works, the process is no longer as described here.

It still works with those same high level steps. Amazon just changed the user interface a little bit and you need to look in the right hand sidebar of the Amazon Reload product landing page to enter the amount.

What if you don't know the balance amount?

Call the 800 number on the back of your prepaid card to see if you can get the balance that way (if you are unable to access it online).

Bummer. No longer works as you cannot choose debit card anymore. Always linked to your Amazon credit card. What was a nice feature is now gone.

It still works. The user interface has changed a bit. When paying for the digital gift card, you can choose the "Change" link next to your default Amazon Payment method and add your FamZoo debit card that you are liquidating as the payment source.

Can you use this method on gift cards that aren't Amazon gift cards?

Bill Dwight aka The Blog Post Author

It's really just a normal purchase transaction, so you should be able to purchase other gift cards with your FamZoo card (unless the merchant explicitly disallows purchases with prepaid cards).

The directions worked perfectly! Thanks so much!

Thank you so much! It worked! My Activate Rewards debit card expires today, and I didn't want to lose the money on it. Now, it's part of my Amazon gift card balance. Wonderful!
