Have you ever received a spot bonus at work?
Boy, does that feel awesome to get some bottom line recognition for a job well done!
No doubt, your kid would love that feeling too.
In fact, I see spot bonus transactions all the time on FamZoo cards.
Check out this sampling of spot bonus reasons pulled from anonymous transaction data:
- “Bonus for helping me make lunch. Thanks!”
- “For cleaning up the kitchen by yourself. Nice job!”
- “Caught using the same cup!”
- “Good piano session!”
- “Bonus for a Great Wednesday Folder!”
- “Good week of class.”
- “Study hard bonus — thank you.”
- “Excellent report card. You make me so proud.”
- “Great job on staying within your shopping budget!”
- “Being super awesome at Karate.”
- “Good rule-following during sleepover.”
- “For helping around the house without being asked. 🙂”
- “Studying 4 days, keeping room picked up, no troubs in school. Thanks bud!”
- “Great job accepting a ‘no’.”
- “Great job keeping your room clean every night for 2 weeks in a row!”
- “Bonus for being helpful and having a positive attitude.”
- “Helping when no one else did.”
- “Thanks for helping blow the driveway.”
- “Helping paint and clean up jobsite.”
- “Helping Grandpa.”
- “Helping at church.”
- “Help with groceries.”
- “Helped with making Curry Chicken.”
- “Doing the dishes with your sister.”
- “For finding the last 2 ornaments.”
Spur any ideas for your kid? If not, there’s always the unconditional parental love bonus like this one:
- “I love you!❤️ -Mom”
Here are four ways to deliver a spot bonus to your kid’s FamZoo card:
- Credit — select the plus icon (+) next to your kid’s card on the Accounts screen. Fill in the amount and a message. Select the Credit Account button. Done!
- Split Credit — Select the Split Credit action on the Accounts screen (look in the menu on the app or in the left hand sidebar on the web). Select the family member. Complete and submit the form just like above, but this time you can split the bonus percentage-wise between a child’s multiple accounts — like 50/50 between spending and saving.
- Money request bonus — when you receive a money request notification from your kid, like:
$5: “I mowed the lawn.”
you can throw in a bonus by approving an amount greater than requested:
$6: “I approve 6. Mama said you did great!”
See how money requests work here.
- Reimbursement bonus — when you receive a reimbursement request notification from your kid, like:
$15: “Cost of a non-fancy haircut.”
you can throw in a bonus by approving an amount greater than requested:
$20: “Now that’s a good,son! So impressed, I’ll kick in an extra 5.”
See how reimbursements work here.
Kids who have activity alerts turned on will see their bonuses immediately.
Note: If you don’t like the idea of a monetary spot bonus, try a non-monetary one: staying up an extra hour on the weekend, an extra hour of computer or gaming time, a sleepover with friends, an ice cream cone, a movie, or whatever privilege or treat your kid treasures.
The words accompanying your spot bonus make a big difference too.
My favorite good-vibe-inducing keyword is “proud’, as in: “I’m proud of you.” I’ve found it’s a sentiment that warms the heart of even the most jaded teen.
So, catch your kids doing something good today. Then reward them with a bonus and a kind word.
