When you have to type your card information into a site or app — or make a payment in person with a swipe, dip, or tap — that little bit of friction creates a small “speed bump” to spending: a brief moment to reconsider whether the purchase is really worth it.
Friction is the enemy of mindless spending.
On the other hand, mindless spending thrives when all friction is removed.
So how do merchants remove spending friction?
By storing your card information as a convenient, automatic payment method.
The result?
- Free trials turn into subscriptions you didn’t mean to start.
- Subscription payments continue long after you’ve stopped using the service.
- Small purchases for in-game items and downloaded media pile up.
- E-commerce checkout becomes a little too easy.
That’s why one of the simplest ways to rein in mindless spending is to periodially identify all the places your card is stored on file with a merchant.
Fortunately, FamZoo makes this very simple.
How to Find Stored Payment Methods in FamZoo
- Sign into FamZoo.
- Go to the Accounts screen by selecting Bank > Accounts
- Visit the Search Transactions screen by pressing Return in the search box at the top.
- You’ll initially see all transactions.
- Parents see transactions across all family cards.
- Children see only transactions from their own cards.
- Choose Actions > Select Columns.
- Select Entry Mode, move it into the visible columns, and select Apply.
- You’ll now see how each purchase was made in the Entry Mode column.
- Click the Entry Mode column header and select Stored Payment Method under Filter...
Now you’ll see all of your frictionless purchases — transactions where merchants have your card info stored on file.
- That unused Disney+ subscription you haven’t touched since Frozen came out.
- The gym membership you never actually used. 😬
- The DashPass subscription you don’t need because you rarely use DoorDash.
- The Robux purchases for all those silly Roblox avatar outfits.
See charges you don’t want or don’t need? Visit the merchant’s site or app and remove your card as a stored payment method.
Put the brakes on your family’s mindless spending by keeping those little speed bumps in place.
