You have one Dining Out budget for the family, but several family members buying meals. How do you make sure everyone’s purchases come out of the same pool of funds?
Earlier this year, I described how to manage a shared family budget with FamZoo: put the budgeted funds on a dedicated card, transfer money to each family member’s spending card before a purchase, and return any excess afterward.
That approach still works. But digital wallets offer a convenient — and highly secure — shortcut.
Add the same shared budget card to each participating family member’s digital wallet. Then select that card before paying.
No transfers back and forth. Each purchase draws directly from the same shared balance.
I tested this with my own FamZoo card: I added it to Google Wallet on my Android phone and to Apple Wallet on my wife’s iPhone. Same card. Two phones ready to tap to pay. One budget.
